About Newton Johnson Family Vineyards

Dave and Felicity (Nee Newton) Johnson developed the vineyard in 1995. Currently, this family vineyard is under the stewardship of their sons Gordon and Bevan. The husband and wife team of Gordon and Nadia have capably taken over as winemakers.

The ideal elevation on the slopes of the Hemel-En-Aarde valley between 150 and 300m above sea level allows the vines to be kissed with cooling ocean breezes. Clay and unique granite soils create wines unmistakable in the Western Cape.

Soils untilled before 2001 were undamaged by agricultural pesticides and fertilizers, allowing healthy soils to be planted with the most compatible grapes and trained correctly for the different slopes on the property. Plentiful rains in the winter and spring also reduces irrigation to slight or none-at-all.
