Ataraxia Wines – Breathtaking Views And Elegant Wines

Ataraxia – a ” Serene state of Mind”

Ataraxia – a ” Serene state of Mind” the Greek opposite of disturbance or trouble – simply: “Tranquility”. At around 360m above sea-level at the head of the Klein River Valley, the vineyards are blessed with breathtaking views and regular cooling breezes from the ocean.

About Ataraxia Wines

The elevation and location at the head of the Hemel-En-Aarde valley caress the vines with constant ocean breezes. The location against the over 1200m Babilon’s Tower mountain has 14 soil types, mostly sandstone, granite and shale. This soil combination and cool air allow the planting of cooler climate varietals. 12 Hectares currently under vines and 12 hectares planned for the future.

From the impressive entrance and gently curving drive around the crest towards the tasting rooms, the evidence of well laid out vineyards abound. Reaching the tasting room (the lounge), you’re met with a tranquil scene – in a chapel, architected in the local Cape building style! The elevation, climate and soils are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which seem thrilled about their luck to be planted here – Prove it for yourself in the tasting.
