About Bateleur

Bateleur Bush Camp is camp is situated 40 km from Shingwedzi main rest camp in the northern Mopane/Woodland savannah on the banks of the Mashokwe river.

The game viewing can be very rewarding around this delightful camp, situated on the Mashokwe spruit. The oldest and one of the smallest bush camps, it is named after the short tailed eagle formerly known as the Bateleur eagle. Two dams close by are exclusively accessible for camp visitors, namely Rooibosrand and Silwervis..

Why visit Bateleur?

• Bateleur has an idyllic location in prime elephant country.
• Birding can be very productive in the area.
• The mopane’s butterfly shaped leaves change to yellow, orange and red brown in autumn, which gives this area it’s unique warm winter colour.
• Crossing of the tropic of Capricorn

Tips:

A camp to get away from the crowds in the larger main camps.
Walk around the camp site for,great birding and tree spotting possibilities.
Make sure to visit the tropic of Capricorn cairn and the Mooiplaas waterhole, which often gets good elephant and predator sightings
In the camp, be sure to keep an eye and ear open for owls and nightjars at night.
