Berg-en-Dal is situated in the picturesque Hills in the South West of the Kruger National Park. Gently hugging the water course of the Matjulu seasonal water course this campsite has abundant lush trees in and around the camp, that attract an array of birds.

Berg-en-Dal is situated in one of the most diverse habitats of the Kruger National Park. With a considerable height difference between the tops of the hills and the surrounding grasslands, combined with the varying underlying soils, this area supports a great variety of trees, birds and wildlife, although not in large quantities.

Why visit Berg-en-Dal?

  • The bush surrounding Berg-en-Dal has a unique eco-system within the Kruger National Park.
  • Care was taken during the building of this campsite, to keep most of the trees, which makes for great birding.
  • leopards are often seen and heard in the area
  • The summer updrafts attract many raptors, like Brown Snake-Eagle, African Hawk-Eagle, as well as the local fish eagles
  • The proximity to the gate at Malalane , it is ideal, for a first night in the park.

Tips:

A family friendly camp, with varied accommodation and facilities.
Great game viewing as you leave the camp gates – for newbies, slowly follow the river courses towards Crocodile Bridge.
Various walks in the camp site offer great birding and tree spotting possibilities.
Swimming pool for residents will entertain the kids and adults on hot summer days.
In the camp, be sure to keep an eye and ear open for Peters’s epauletted fruit bat, thick-tailed bush babies, genets and also other wildlife close to the fence.

Wild dog, only if you’re lucky
Giraffe in the valleys
Kudu and smaller antelope

Eagles: African fish eagle, Bateleur , Brown Snake-Eagle, African Hawk-Eagle
Mocking Cliff-Chat, Familiar Chat
Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Heuglin’s Robin

Jacques has been a keen travel junkie, for as long as he can remember. Having spent his childhood in Namibia, Limpopo province in South Africa (near the Kruger National Park ) and KZN in South Africa and later Cape Town, always been surrounded by nature and beautiful scenery. Qualifying as a safari guide in 1996, Jacques guided over virtually all possible natural eco systems and travelled over hundreds of thousands of kilometers, through all the southern African countries.
